ADVANCED FIBRE PRODUCTION WORKSHOPS
Alpaca Production Workshops for those considering Showing and Advanced Breeding of Alpacas:
One day Workshops $480 per head $620 for a couple (includes morning tea, lunch and all classroom handouts and practical sessions. These are a mixture of theory (a full powerpoint presentation) and hands on exercises with the animals. Accommodation available on request
Learn how to breed your own successful Alpaca Herd
Topics include:
- Frames and Conformation
- Understanding fleece for viable commercial harvest
- SRS Breeding principles and other science behind breeding
- Understanding fleece data/registration processes
- A comprehensive examination of groups of alpacas to understand the better or poorer attributes of an animal.
- Understanding predictability in breeding and the importance of knowing your own goal posts.
- Understanding the show ring and what the judges look for and why.
- Other areas may be covered such as artificial breeding techniques etc depending on the needs of the individual participants.
Potential breeders will confidently be able to examine an alpaca in a line up with clear understanding of the importance of sound conformation, bone and body balance and structure. Questions answered: What animals will I start with? Do I need my own stud male? How do I commence showing? What other desirable fleece traits?
Presenters
The program for each day will be hands on practical training with US Judge and SRS trained breeder, Janie Hicks & Dr. Ian Davison, both foundation members of the Australian Alpaca Association since 1992 and breeders since 1988. Ian served as President of the AAA 2008/2010.
